A decisive post-election drama is about to play out at the Lansing Capitol, which is closed to the public Monday. Senate and House office buildings also will be locked.<\/p>\n

State troopers will walk with 16 Democratic Party electors from their vehicles and into to the Capitol during early afternoon because protesters will be on the steps and lawn.<\/p>\n

The electors’ constitutional duty is to cast Electoral College votes in the Senate chamber for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, a 2 p.m. formality that will be livestreamed. Then\u00a0Congress counts the electoral votes from each state Jan. 6 to end the most bizarre election ever.<\/p>\n

In addition to armed escorts protecting the men and women representing 50.6% of the state’s Nov. 3 voters, Michigan’s 2020 election was followed by state and federal judicial rulings, tense legislative hearings and a challenge by Texas’ attorney general that the\u00a0U.S. Supreme Court rebuffed\u00a0Friday evening.<\/p>\n
