{"id":3278,"date":"2020-10-31T17:36:30","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T17:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peoriamag.com\/?p=3278"},"modified":"2020-12-14T17:37:30","modified_gmt":"2020-12-14T17:37:30","slug":"urban-meyer-has-strong-message-for-michigan-wolverines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peoriamag.com\/?p=3278","title":{"rendered":"Urban Meyer has strong message for Michigan Wolverines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year around this time, the rumors begin flying around that\u00a0<strong>Jim Harbaugh<\/strong>\u00a0will leave\u00a0<strong>Michigan<\/strong>\u00a0to return to the NFL, where he had quite a bit of success during his time with the\u00a0<strong>San Francisco 49ers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But this year, those rumors have been even more heated as Harbaugh has just one year remaining on his current contract.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-874\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Everybody seems to have an opinion on whether or not the Wolverines should move on from Harbaugh, including former\u00a0<strong>Ohio State<\/strong>\u00a0head coach,\u00a0<strong>Urban Meyer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Meyer had a strong message for Michigan, saying that Harbaugh should stay and that the Wolverines should not lower their standards.<span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-881\" class=\"ezoic-adpicker-ad\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYeah, I have a much, much different perspective, because I\u2019m older than you guys,\u201d Meyer said. \u201cI grew up in the 70s, 80s and 90s. In the 70s, it was about even \u2014 I\u2019m talking about the rivalry. 80s \u2014 about even. In the 90s, the Wolverines are 7-2-1. So that\u2019s 17-11-2 for the three decades prior to the last 20 years. So I refuse to accept that anyone says that anyone says they can\u2019t compete with Ohio State. I refuse! Don\u2019t ever lower your standards. If you\u2019re a leader and you\u2019re a graduate of the Wolverines, do not lower your standards!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI made the comment \u2014 is Jim Harbaugh a good coach? He\u2019s a heckuva coach. He\u2019s won 70% of his games in the NFL. I made a comment \u2014 you blow it up. I didn\u2019t say change coaches \u2014 blow it up. Find out \u2014 evaluate your recruiting strategies. Evaluate your player development and get that right. Do not lower your standards, I\u2019m telling you \u2014 do not do that.
